Avnet employees, suppliers and customers honor Pat Lyons

Published by Al Maag at 4:04 pm under Uncategorized

On May 20, 2010, employees from Avnet’s Chicago facility lost a great friend and coworker: Pat Lyons, an account manager for Avnet Electronics Marketing (EM) Americas. Pat spent more than 20 years serving the electronics industry, the last 15 at Avnet, usually focused on IP&E products. While Pat lost his battle with cancer, he leaves a legacy behind. At Avnet, he was best known for his service at the Northern Illinois Food Bank. His volunteer work gathered many people from the industry, and he was recognized when Avnet was named the volunteer organization of the year in 2008!

On Tuesday night over 80 fellow employees, suppliers, customers and his family honored him by showing up and helping  at the Food Bank like he had so many times before. The feedback and participation was out of this world according to it’s organizers! Not only did they help physically but rumor has it they raised approx $5,000 too in Pat’s name. What is also cool they intend to keep the tradition going during the year.

Another example of why I’m always impressed by our community activities around the world and culture created by our employees. A positive role model honored by folks just trying to help those less fortunate. Rock on.

PS

He will also be missed at the Maag Toy Foundation event in Oakbrook, IL on 8/30. He was a supporter for many years. He will be noted and remembered there too.
