Spotlight On: The Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship

Introducing the “Spotlight On” addition to my blog.  I will periodically shine the spotlight on community outreach organizations, other companies doing CR work, and/or other entities that have to do with the field of CR.

It’s only appropriate to start with the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.  The Center is where I got my CR training all those years ago.  It’s where I learned about doing strategic CR work and how to tie it all into the business plan.

A bit more about them: The Center is where leading corporate citizens go to stay ahead of the curve in CR trends and where they learn through management programs, research findings and analysis.

As it says on their Web site, the Boston College Center has been a trusted educational resource since 1985 “for companies trying to strengthen their relationship with communities and build sustainable strategies for addressing large societal issues … we draw knowledge and insight that allows us to build world class curriculum and conduct research. As one of the oldest corporate citizenship think tanks, we maintain the largest team of researchers focused on the role business plays in 21st century society. Our research agenda contributes vital knowledge to companies and provides other management educators contemporary insight on corporate responsibility.”

All of the classes I’ve taken through The Center have been valuable, worthwhile and immediately applicable to the business.  In fact, they pride themselves on the fact that they provide “solutions and tools that can be put to use immediately by those who drive citizenship within global companies. Boston College is the only university in North America that offers certificate programs in the areas of corporate citizenship and corporate community involvement.”
