The Necessity of Yin and Yang
Posted on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at 3:34 pmCategory: Blogs, Two-fold Path, Yang, Yin
If you didn’t make it to the end of last week’s power point presentation, you didn’t get the quote about chaos. So, here goes:
Out of clutter, find simplicity.
From discord, find harmony.
In the middle of difficulty …
lies opportunity.
– Albert Einstein
As I sit on the beach in Mexico sipping my refreshments, that is exactly what I am trying to do. A little simplicity and harmony are definitely in order for me right now. That’s the yin to balance out all the yang of creating a signature event like the Avnet Tech Games. It’s also part of the two-fold path I keep talking about.
Community Relations professionals all have the same personality type. We are always “on” and we are always thinking. If you have ever gone to any of the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship training classes, you know what I’m talking about. You feel like you are in a room with hundreds of clones of yourself! Seriously. We’re a fun bunch, but we are exhausting to be around.
My advice for all my peers, don’t forget the yin. When you go down the path of relaxation, when you take the time to recharge your batteries, you come out the other side refreshed and ready to go … with all kinds of great, new ideas (can’t keep the yang repressed for long).
So, grab a drink, kick back and forget about the chaos for a while. You’ll thank me later when that brilliant new opportunity finally got the chance to penetrate all that clutter in your brain.
And, just in case you are wondering …. no, I’m not writing this while on vacation. The gremlins in my computer are posting this blog for me while I’m gone. Ain’t technology grand?
