So here it is February already and I haven’t written a thing about my pet project, the Avnet Tech Games.  And, here it is ten minutes before I am supposed to leave for an appointment and I haven’t written my blog.  My bad.  Procrastination is alive and well with Miss T.

So, hang with me please and I soon will talk ad nauseum about the Avnet Tech Games.  It really is one of the coolest projects I’ve ever been involved in.

In the mean time, those of you in the Phoenix area, turn on your TVs tonight so you can check it out:  the Avnet Tech Games will be featured on the Phoenix Suns (Suzie: that’s the round, orange ball) pre-game show this Friday, Feb. 6 around 8:00pm on Fox Sports Arizona. And while you are checking things out, go to this link so you can see the video that last years winning team produced.

And, read on, check out the following press release, so you can learn more about the competition the Suns are helping us with, one of the premier events that comprises the Avnet Tech Games:

SUNS, AVNET TEAM UP IN ANNUAL AVNET TECH GAMES
College Students to produce Suns commercial for chance to win $1,000 scholarship

PHOENIX – Student teams participating in the 2009 Avnet Tech Games “Multimedia Fast Break” competition will be given an opportunity to create a 30-second promotional spot for the Phoenix Suns and earn a $1,000 scholarship. The spots will be judged at the fourth annual Avnet Tech Games held on Saturday, April 4 at the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe.

Each team participating in the “Multimedia Fast Break” event will be given a Phoenix Suns advertising scenario with the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Phoenix Suns staff members.  Teams will then have one week to produce a commercial spot using technology of their choice and pitch their final product for the judges. The team’s efforts will be judged based on technical criteria and ability to meet Phoenix Suns requirements and expectations.

The winning team will have an opportunity to tour the Phoenix Suns production studio and see first-hand how a game is produced.

Additionally, the team will get to attend either a Suns or Mercury game and a chance to see their spot aired during a Suns game.  MAXON, a multimedia software developer, will provide the winning team and college with a licensed copy of its 3D software.

Applications for the Avnet Tech Games are being accepted through Friday, February 27. All Arizona college students are encouraged to participate. Please visit AvnetTechGames.com for more information and to sign up.
