You are so right about what you said in “Blazing the Two-Fold Path,” Teri. When you are leading the way for the old proverbial “out of the box” marketing strategy it is imperative to have all your goals outlined. Here at Suzie Guzman Solutions (SGS), when we work with Teri, we look at name awareness, community events and how we want to reach their specific market. Corporate marketing is very different from retail or other main stream accounts that we deal with. Developing signature events, ones that take the corporate name, the look and feel of that corporation, is the goal that all companies need in their community activities.
I think my friend Al Maag, Avnet Chief Communications Officer, said it best the other day in a meeting, “Six years ago the Avnet name was not very well know but because of the awareness campaigns and event work done by our Community Relations group the value of our name in the community has grown by 90% today”.
You may ask yourself why would a corporation that serves the world care about the community it lives in. Community service brings a level of higher respect and with that brings the best of the best to the company in the form of new employees, government awareness and overall corporate-community balance.
Advertising, once again is considered something that major corporations think that they really do not need. In reality, advertising, instead of the Public Relations many corporations use today, will more effectively move the mark in a guaranteed environment and ensure the message the corporation is making to the community is run as it was intended in their plan. The most effective marketing tool is television. Its wide reach of the market allows us to easily target our audience but we get the added benefit of full market awareness. This is followed by radio and print.
At Avnet they have effectively allowed us at SGS Solutions to take their message to their target market, the community leaders, and to find segments that they sometimes want to uniquely target. We also have included social media, blogs, and internet marketing effectively to reach the college market for things like the Avnet Tech Games, and thus take the Avnet name to the forefront of today’s marketing.
